Towards Digital Apprenticeship: Wearable Activity Recognition in the Workshop Setting

چکیده
Online communities for sharing instructional content have grown from a renewed interest in DIY culture. However, it is difficult to convey the tacit knowledge implicit in certain skills. We identify the need for Digital Apprenticeship, where workshop activities are sensed and analyzed for both quantitative and qualitative measures. We evaluated this concept with an activity recognition system for carpentry tools. Using a single ring-worn inertial measurement unit (IMU), we collected data from 15 participants using 5 hand and power tools. Our window-based multi-class SVM achieves 82% accuracy with realistic training scenario and outputs user-friendly event activity. We investigate how these results contextualize to applications in digital apprenticeship, namely tutorial authoring, content following and technique feedback. Author

Developing and Validating a New Wireless Wearable Device for Balance Measurement in Sport and Clinical Setting
One of the new clinical techniques to assess the lower body parameters is the wearable ultrasonic sensors. The device which can measure the static and dynamic balance abilities in sport and clinical setting by the traveled signals of ultrasonic transmitter and receiver between two feet was developed and validated. The new device consisted of a pressure gauge and a digital centimeter indicator a...

متن کاملDetecting Hands in Egocentric Videos: Towards Action Recognition
Recently, there has been a growing interest in analyzing human daily activities from data collected by wearable cameras. Since the hands are involved in a vast set of daily tasks, detecting hands in egocentric images is an important step towards the recognition of a variety of egocentric actions. However, besides extreme illumination changes in egocentric images, hand detection is not a trivial...
متن کاملDeep Activity Recognition Models with Triaxial Accelerometers
Despite the widespread installation of accelerometers in almost all mobile phones and wearable devices, activity recognition using accelerometers is still immature due to the poor recognition accuracy of existing recognition methods and the scarcity of labeled training data. We consider the problem of human activity recognition using triaxial accelerometers and deep learning paradigms. This pap...
متن کاملFusing On-Body Sensing with Local and Temporal Cues for Daily Activity Recognition
Automatically recognizing people’s daily activities is essential for a variety of applications, such as just-in-time content delivery or quantified self-tracking. Towards this, researchers often use customized wearable motion sensors tailored to recognize a small set of handpicked activities in controlled environments. In this paper, we design and engineer a scalable, daily activity recognition...
